New Paintings

It feels so good to be making work again! I found a morning to myself amidst the chaos that is working full time and selling and buying houses at the same time.

Since the show at Stockroom I've been playing with ideas for developing my star-scape works, to bring in more texture, more colour, more energy and more movement.

Below is the first work in a new series of Star-scape that I am working on, it is a gift for my dad (who I'm sure doesn't read my blog, so it wont ruin the surprise)

2015 Banyule Award for Works on Paper

My work was shortlisted for the 2015 Banyule Award for Works on Paper! This years theme is Space.

Here is my artist statement about the work:

Imbedded within Star-scape #2 is an embroidered rendering of Oxytocin, the chemical linked with bonding, attachment and feelings of love.

 By representing Oxytocin as a constellation, Hanlon evokes the romance, mythology and metaphor afforded the night sky in expressing sentiments about how we connect, our history and our subjective understandings of our interconnectedness though-out space and time. It also pays homage to Carl Sagan’s understanding that we’re “starstuff pondering the stars”. Every chemical that exists was expelled from a collapsing star, our bodies and our biochemistry; all of the physical and emotional bonds we have, at the outset, were formed in Space.

The Banyule Award opens on on Tuesday 13th of October, 6-9pm at Hatch Contemporary Art Space.
